The controversy over Shane Gillis’s Saturday Night Live monologue keeps widening. The latest voice is Casey Anthony. She appears to be the latest public figure to weigh in, in a post on her Substack account on Monday, October 12. yahoo

Who is Casey Anthony?

Anthony, 40, is best known for being tried and acquitted in 2011 for the 2008 first-degree murder of her two-year-old daughter, Caylee. She has since built a presence on social media and Substack. yahoo

What she wrote

Her post wasn’t a detailed review of the monologue. She said women can dress however they want, including at the gym, and she criticized men with opinions about how women dress. She called it a “toxic masculinity trend” that needs to end. She also said women do not answer to men or dress for them, and she told men to “do better.” Her wording was strong and included profanity, which I’ve left out. A midterms message

She used the post to urge women to be mindful of the men they elect in the upcoming midterms, telling voters to listen to what candidates say and how they behave. That political message is her opinion, and people will disagree on both sides. yahoo

What started it

Gillis hosted SNL on October 10. He previously hosted the show in 2024 and 2025, after being fired as a cast member in 2019 when earlier anti-Asian and anti-gay comments resurfaced. His opening monologue included a joke about women’s gym clothing that drew criticism. DeadlineDeadline

Who else has reacted

Dan Levy posted an Instagram reel on Sunday night criticizing the monologue, and Kathy Griffin and Ego Nwodim have also weighed in, as covered in earlier reports. Not everyone has criticized it, and some commentators have defended Gillis’s right to tell the joke. Deadline

Why it keeps going

The story touches several hot topics at once: comedy and free speech, how women are talked about, and the midterms. Add a famous and controversial name like Anthony’s, and every new reaction gets attention.

Bottom line

A week after the monologue, the reactions are still coming. Anthony’s post adds another voice to an argument that doesn’t have one answer.
