Neighbor Help Shock
It didn’t feel like a big deal at the time.
My 82-year-old neighbor needed help carrying groceries inside. Her hands were shaking, her steps slow, and the bags were heavier than they looked. So I walked over, took them from her, and helped her into the house.
She smiled. Thanked me more than once.
That was it.
Or at least… that’s what I thought.
The next morning, there was a knock on my door.
Not just anyone.
The sheriff.
My heart dropped instantly. My mind started racing, trying to figure out what I could have possibly done wrong.
“Are you the one who was at Mrs. Henderson’s house yesterday?” he asked.
My stomach tightened.
Because whatever I thought that simple act of kindness meant…
It clearly wasn’t the whole story.
