House Majority Whip Tom Emmer is calling for Rep. Ilhan Omar to face jail time and deportation if investigators prove she obtained U.S. citizenship through fraud.
The Minnesota Republican’s warning comes as federal investigators examine allegations that Omar or her father falsified her birth year on immigration paperwork.
Agents searched her Washington, D.C., home earlier this week, seizing her cellphone and other belongings.
Omar denies wrongdoing and calls the investigation political persecution.
