“We are excited to announce that our baby boy, Alec Neel Vance, was born this morning,” the couple said on July 19.
They also thanked the medical staff at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, where Alec was born.
He joined older siblings Ewan, Vivek and Mirabel, making the Vances a family of six. Usha and JD met while studying at Yale Law School and married in 2014.

At Monday’s ceremony, Alec remained nestled against his mother while the attention turned toward the First Lady’s announcement.
Melania outlines a new approach to women’s health
The executive order calls for a new Women’s Health Division within the National Institutes of Health, alongside a White House Women’s Health Task Force.
“This is a transformative moment for women in America,” Melania said. “Beginning today, we will change the reality of women’s health.”
The initiative is intended to address research gaps involving conditions that disproportionately affect women, including heart disease, Alzheimer’s, endometriosis and osteoporosis. Infertility, menopause and maternal health are also among its areas of focus.
The NIH division is expected to be established within 90 days, while the task force will coordinate efforts across the federal government.
Kennedy and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles will co-chair the task force.

Melania described priorities that include directing research funding toward women’s diseases, using artificial intelligence to accelerate discoveries and helping treatments reach patients sooner. She also emphasized affordability and more open discussion of women’s health.
Trump credited his wife with bringing the proposal to him.
The order replaces earlier women’s health initiatives introduced under former President Joe Biden. It does not specify additional funding for the new programs.
JD Vance says family will factor into his political future
Usha’s appearance came a day after her husband discussed the demands of raising four children while considering his future in politics.
During a CBS News town hall on Sunday, the vice president acknowledged that he could decide against seeking the presidency in 2028.
“Of course there’s a chance,” he said when asked whether he might sit out the race.

“Man, we’ve got four little kids,” he added, explaining that Usha has never particularly enjoyed politics despite her commitment to public service.
JD has not formally announced a presidential campaign and has said a decision will follow November’s midterm elections.
For Monday’s White House appearance, however, Usha’s focus was on supporting the women’s health announcement while keeping her youngest son close — and peacefully asleep throughout his moment beside the president.
